  • Previous message in error.

So the previous entry was in error.  The truth is I forgot I even had a xanga account, and if you read closely it sounds too lame to be me.

Quick update, I just finished my month of emergency medicine.  It was great.  Got to see and do a lot of cool stuff.  I am now on my anesthesia month, which I am also liking a lot.  Will be choosing between the two.  Going to London next month for a infectious diseases month, will be exciting.

For those of you waiting for an update about Honduras, I will be writing soon, and hopefully have some pictures as well.

  • Hello All,

I thought I'd just update people on where I am and what I am doing.  I am currently going to medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  I have been here for the past two months already.  Adjusting is really difficult...the people here just seem different.  I am almost 100% sure I want to return to LA to do my internship.

Medical school is no joke.  We do have to study a lot, but it isn't completely overwhelming.  It's just hard to find time to take a break.  I also study a lot more than I did in undergrad.  Maybe it's just all the time I spend cooking and shopping.  Man I miss the dorms.

So it's weird being in medical school.  We had our white coat ceremony a few weeks ago, and after the ceremony we went out to eat.  One of our deans, Dr. Zink was with us.  During our dinner this woman comes running over to our table.  She says "I saw all your white coats, there is a man who just passed out at the table across the room."  Since everyone at the table was just a scrub with no experience, Dr. Zink came to the rescue and looked over the man.  He turned out to have a history of heart disease, but turned out fine in the end.

I guess doctors are doctors 24/7, not just when they are working.  I just don't want to let anyone down, because it's life or death now.  I am officially in the Big Leagues.

  • My letter to the President of the United States of America.

World Vision wrote it, I just signed my name, but I agree with all the points made.

    Jun 17, 2005

    President George Bush
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest
    The White House
    Washington, DC 20500-0003

    Dear President Bush,

One child dies every three seconds -- that's 30,000 a day more than
10 million a year -- most die of hunger and preventable disease.

Some 600 million children live in extreme poverty, without basic
necessities like clean water, health care, and education.
Approximately 15 million children have been orphaned and made
vulnerable by the HIV/AIDS pandemic -- the vast majority of these
children live on the African continent.

Mr. President, Africa's suffering is unnecessary. It's morally
    unconscionable.

Americans responded in force to the tsunami in Southeast Asia when
250,000 lives were lost. The "silent tsunamis" of hunger and
disease are devastating Africa right now: About 70 percent of Africans
live on less than $2 a day; 200 million go hungry; more than 2,700
people, most of them young children, die of malaria each day; and
twice that many succumb to AIDS. We are not giving to this daily
disaster with the same energy and fervor that we responded to the
    tsunami survivors.

Nearly 1 million Americans -- many in the faith community -- are
calling for action across political and religious divides to beat the
global AIDS emergency and extreme poverty. I am one of these
    Americans.

Our nation has an historic opportunity to use our greatness, wealth,
and influence at the G8 Summit on July 6 to help our African neighbors
    in crisis.

I urge you to lead other nations at Gleneagles to make poverty
    history by:

    > Helping the poorest of the poor fight poverty, disease, and
hunger at a cost equal to just one percent more of the U.S. budget on
    a clear timetable.

    > Canceling 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries.

    > Reforming trade rules so people in poor countries can earn
    sustainable incomes.

Thank you for your leadership to help others help themselves and
especially giving children the opportunity to live life in all its
    fullness.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Mike Wang

  • John 3:3

Have you ever heard the notion that as a follower of Jesus, there should never be a dull moment in your life?  Was Jesus ever bored?  Was he ever tired of living?  My live is filled to the brim with routine, but as a follower of Jesus I know that life should be lived with utmost eagerness and interest.  Every experience, no matter how mundane the world deems it, should be just as fun and life giving as winning the World Series.  This is hard to believe, and even harder to live out.

As I walk more and more with Jesus, I can see more truth in the word.  Being born again in spirit, by the Spirit should give me more passion for life.  It truly did.  Those first few months after I became a Christian I was on fire for God, Jesus, and life.  I must sadly admit the fire has burned down.  Only through the Spirit can I again be reborn into Christ Jesus, to have a renewal of my life.  I pray that you would give me new life Lord; new wine, and new wineskins to live life the way you did and do.
